Which bending technology do you need?
Tube and profile bending covers several technologies that aren’t interchangeable with each other: the choice depends on the radius you need, the material’s wall thickness, and whether the tube can lose its cross-section during the bend. Confusing one technology with another usually results in out-of-tolerance parts or an avoidable tooling overcost.
Mandrel or mandrel-less
Mandrel bending introduces an internal mandrel that supports the tube wall, essential for tight radii and thin-wall tube. Mandrel-less bending does without that mandrel when the radius is wide enough for the tube not to ovalize, simplifying the tooling.
3-roll or multi-radius
3-roll bending machines are designed for structural profile and large-section tube with wide radii. Multi-radius bending machines let you program several different radii on the same part without repositioning it or changing tooling between one bend and the next.
Electromechanical, hydraulic or full-electric
Electromechanical drive offers precision in medium sections with contained energy consumption; hydraulic drive brings more force for thick walls; full-electric drive, typical of multi-radius bending, simplifies maintenance by doing away with the hydraulic system. No technology replaces another: it’s worth defining the radius and material first, before comparing drive types.
